Conference Centres of Excellence back at Confex with even stronger offering

Stand B862 at International Confex sees Conference Centres of Excellence, the UK’s leading consortium of specialist conference and training venues, returning to the event with a broader choice of venues than ever.

The quality-centric consortium passed up on last year’s event while it was establishing its own in house venue-finding team and re-focusing its membership and its geographical spread to address new trends in the recession-affected market. Now it’s presenting an enhanced line-up, together with the advantages of Hotline, its dedicated, one-to-one service to event organisers.

The Møller Centre Awarded for Technical Excellence

The Møller Centre in Cambridge has recently received several awards for its facilities, service and on-going commitment to quality improvement. Three of them are national awards, including one which sees the centre as one of only 17 venues nationwide to achieve the gold level in a new quality standard.

At the Institute of IT Training Gala Awards, The Møller Centre was awarded Silver for 'Training Venue of the Year’, based on its ability to offer clients the technical facilities and support they require, including its recent extensive investment in additional AV/PA; video recording and relay, video conferencing, and web- conferencing and casting.

The highly respected Business Weekly, the newspaper for business innovation in the East of England credited The Møller Centre in its Service sector ‘New Year Honours List’Tony Quested, Editor of Business Weekly said ‘Possibly saving the best till last, The Møller Centre becomes the first ever conference venue to appear in our Honours. The Møller Centre is the only dedicated, residential executive training and conference centre in Cambridge. Based at Churchill College, it’s more than a stunning and stimulating environment for business gatherings. The whole atmosphere created at the venue by a management determined to ensure organisations derive the maximum from their event is an object lesson to corporate events venues everywhere.'

In January, BDRC (the UK’s leading independent market research agency specialising in hospitality) announced the launch of its new ‘VenueVerdict Gold Standard’, awarded only to venues delivering the very highest levels of customer satisfaction over a period of time, based on large volumes of customer feedback. Of the 200 venues taking part in this survey, only 17 achieved Gold standard, of which The Møller Centre was one.

Completing the 2010 Sunday Times ‘Best Companies to Work For’ survey, The Møller Centre has been awarded the status of ‘Ones to Watch’ – out of 38 organisations in the East of England to achieve accreditation. ‘Best Companies’ established the accreditation award scheme to acknowledge excellence in the workplace. Based on staff feedback, it looks at employee engagement as an integral part of a company’s success and growth, and sets a benchmark for other employers.

Mark Carberry, Sales and Marketing Manager for The Møller Centre, said ‘We are delighted to receive these awards in recognition of our service and facilities. Service is at the core of what we do, starting from the first point of contact with a client and working with them every step of the way to ensure a successful outcome for their event, and our staff are at the very heart of this process.’

‘Each of these awards emphasises that it is the quality of the facilities and the staff that make a venue successful,’ added Mark: ‘The Møller Centre has identified a number of key elements that enables them to consistently improve on service levels and customer satisfaction. These are staff training and engagement, investing in the facilities and benchmarking the organisation.’

Training Journal Conference & Awards 2010

It’s not just winning that makes applying for a TJ Award worthwhile, a survey of last year’s short listed finalists proved that at every level of award entry, from putting together your submission to winning the award, there are real benefits to reap with improvement in evaluation being top of the list for most.

"Going through the process of writing an award submission forced us to scrutinise our training design and evaluation processes and this was extremely beneficial"

Karen Fleming, Global Learning and Development Manager, Hydratight Ltd

This year sees two new categories added to the TJ Awards list: best apprenticeship and the peer award for innovation. The peer award is assessed at the informatology 2010 conference in April and subsequently online. Applications for this award as well as all other awards should be submitted as soon as possible using the TJ entry form which can be accessed via their website

The 2010 categories are:
• Best public service initiative
• Best not-for profit initiative
• Best commercial training initiative over 1000 employees
• Best commercial training initiative under 1000 employees
• Best training partnership programme of the year
• Best customer service programme of the year
• Best e-learning programme of the year
• Best coaching programme of the year
• Best change management programme of the year
• Best apprenticeship programme of the year - New for 2010
• Peer award for innovation - New for 2010
• TJ's learning and development professional of the year

Recognising the value of learning - Training Journal event at The Møller Centre, Cambridge

Thursday 25th February, The Møller Centre, Cambridge

One of emerging themes of the L& D 2020 Phase 1 report was the question of how to validate workplace learning and as more learning at work becomes social and informal this becomes an even greater challenge. In this one-day workshop we will be looking at the accreditation of learning. McDonalds' Restaurants will be describing how they deliver and accredit their education and learning and experts in accreditation, HE@Work will be explaining how to turn that learning into a degree.

Key benefits of attending:
• Learn how training and work-based learning can count towards a higher education award
• Understand the criteria required for different levels of award
• Gain insight on how existing L&D programmes have potential for accreditation
• Understand the principles of accreditation
• Gain awareness of the processes to gain accreditation
• Work on a case study for accreditation.
The workshop will offer participants the opportunity to find out how to gain recognition for the quality of the learning and development they currently offer, whether this is training, existing professional institute qualifications or on the job learning, and to incorporate this with evidence of learning from the workplace to gain a higher education award. You will see how this can enhance and integrate with existing personal development programmes and appraisal processes and bring benefits in improved retention and better motivated staff. To read more about HE@Work’s approach download this free article
There will also be a chance to learn about personal learning environments from Karen Velasco from The British Institute of Learning and Development and you can read more about PLEs by reading Karen’s article for free from the current edition of TJ.

Price: £249 plus VAT - this fee covers your attendance, refreshments and lunch.
