Conference Centres of Excellence member proves perfect host for television fashion guru

Television fashion guru finds Nottingham Conference Centre the host for filming

Fashion guru Gok Wan found the perfect host for a Nottingham based episode of his latest series, Gok's Clothes RoadShow. Nottingham Conference Centre (NCC) wowed production company Endemol UK with a guided tour of their facilities on offer for filming in the city in December 2010.

Nottingham Conference Centre's large and pristinely finished spaces lent themselves perfectly to Endemol UK’s needs, offering the venue for a fashion masterclass held by Gok, and the catwalk show for the episode's grand finale.

Opened in early 2010, NCC has quickly established itself as a premier city based conferencing facility in Nottingham. Housed in the recently refurbished Newton and Arkwright buildings of Nottingham Trent University, customers and clients have been impressed with the facilities on offer, as well as the stunning architecture in which they're found.

Donna McLaughlin Series Producer of Gok's Clothes RoadShow, said: 'Nottingham Conference Centre really were the perfect hosts. The buildings they offered to us for filming in are absolutely beautiful, and they provided the perfect backdrop for the Nottingham based episode of the show. The staff and team that we worked with as well meant that we couldn't have asked for more from a host.'

Andrew Keen, Nottingham Conference Centre Manager, said: 'It was a pleasure to play host to Gok and his team. There was a real buzz around the conference centre for the two days that they were with us, and the rooms and spaces that they used for filming looked fantastic.'

Quality service backed-up by quality systems - Missenden Abbey Conference Centre, Buckinghamshire

Missenden Abbey Conference Centre, member of Conference Centres of Excellence, has once again been awarded the highest possible rating, five stars, from Chiltern District Council for its high standard of food service and hygiene.

The award helps the Abbey to continue its unbroken record of achieving the top award, now gained for the fourth consecutive year.

The Council’s Environmental Health Manager concluded that Missenden Abbey, which is owned by Bucks New University, ‘provides an excellent performance level’, and that it ‘has an excellent level of compliance with food hygiene legislation and recommended best practice guidance’. As a result the Abbey has been awarded the coveted five -star rating.

Missenden Abbey is the only conference centre within the Chiltern District Council area to be awarded five stars and only 39 businesses in total have achieved this score.

Steve Crawford, Centre Director at Missenden Abbey, said: “This is the fourth occasion that we have achieved the highest award and it is a great credit to all of the catering team, particularly Phil Child, Acting Head Chef, and Ann Emery, Food & Beverage Manager, for their hard work and high standards of professionalism. Our next goal is to achieve a fifth consecutive five-star award!”

Councillor Isobel Darby, Chiltern District Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Housing added: “Congratulations to all involved at Missenden Abbey in achieving consistently high standards year after year. We are looking forward to their continued success.”

Missenden Abbey Conference Centre is owned by Buckinghamshire New University and has a fascinating history having been originally founded as a working monastery in 1133. It now offers a unique combination of modern residential training facilities together with warm hospitality, all set in a 12th century abbey. Available all year round, it has 20 fully equipped conference rooms and 57 en-suite bedrooms. The Abbey can host corporate events, meetings, training and team building, presentations and conferences, as well as weddings and private functions.

Set in the heart of The Chilterns, Missenden Abbey lies in over ten acres of picturesque lawn and parkland, and yet it is within convenient reach of the M25, M40 and M1 motorways as well as mainline train stations, and is just 30 miles from central London. The Abbey is an active member of Conference Centres of Excellence, a group promoting the concept that dedicated venues provide an ideal location for business events. It is also a member of the Meetings Industry Association, the leading association for the meetings industry. Find out more at www.cceonline.co.uk or call 0845 230 1414.

Scores on the Doors is a scheme to show how well food businesses are complying with food hygiene law.

The scheme applies to all caterers and retailers handling and preparing open food to the public. For example, restaurants, takeaways, cafes, sandwich shops and delicatessens. The food business is given a certificate and sticker to display in their window or door that shows their food hygiene rating out of five stars. The scores are also published online at www.scoresonthedoors.org.uk

The scheme makes the star ratings publicly available so that the public can make informed choices about the places in which they eat out and purchase food, and through this, to encourage businesses to improve hygiene standards.

IET Venues ranked top event venue provider in the UK

IET Venues ranked top event venue provider in the UK

IET venues has been named as the number one UK venue brand in the 2010 BDRC Continental VenueVerdict Awards, in its first year in the programme. Two of its three venues, IET London: Savoy Place and IET Birmingham: Austin Court are members of Conference Centres of Excellence.

Recent research from IET Venues revealed that 51 per cent of event organisers now consider cost and value for money to be the deciding factor when booking an event and IET Venues has taken a number of actions throughout the last year to meet customers’ cost requirements while still providing the highest level of service to both organisers and attendees. This has included venue refurbishments, hiring new dedicated customer service staff, reducing rates to absorb the VAT increase and providing virtual 360 venue tours online.

These measures, coupled with attentive at and post-event service, have led to all three IET Venues achieving ‘Gold Standard’ accreditation by receiving average scores of 90 per cent or more across the year. With no other brand featuring as many venues at this level, IET Venues has also achieved the ‘Gold Standard Brand Award’.

Recent developments at Uplands House generate positive feedback for De Vere Venues

Uplands House, the Buckinghamshire based venue that is part of De Vere Venues, has received significant recent facility investment. Based upon customer feedback, De Vere decided to focus its investment on the bedrooms and the bar and lounge. All 74 bedrooms received a full redecoration, new beds, TVs and soft furnishings, and the addition of 13 zip and link beds has created 24 twin rooms. Most bedrooms have superb views of the Hughenden Valley, and many have direct access to the venue’s grounds through French doors. The warm, contemporary colour scheme has brightened the rooms considerably, whilst making the large picture windows even more of a feature.

The new bar lounge has transformed the public areas of Uplands House. The designers were sympathetic to the heritage of the building using strong colours and a mixture of leather and soft fabrics to create a warm, comfortable and welcoming space which cleverly mixes the modern and traditional.

Guest feedback has been excellent so far, with customer satisfaction ratings improving to over 80% for the bedrooms, and upwards of 95% for the bar lounge.

Conference Centres of Excellence Defining Quality

Conference Centres of Excellence Executive Director Anthony LishmanExecutive Directory Anthony Lishman explains quality assessment for Conference Centres of Excellence - the UK's leading consortium of specialist meeting and training venues.

"The recent publicity and resulting media interest regarding the national rating schemes and common standards continues to keep quality and the perception of quality in the spotlight, at Conference Centres of Excellence it’s something that is never far from our thoughts.

As a collection of 41 quality specialist venues, and growing, it’s where we started some 22 years ago, albeit rather modestly with 5 or so founding venues forming the association to define quality in our sector. We continue to recruit only the very best Conference, Meeting and Training venues, whether they are residential or non residential, city based or set in beautiful countryside, they all have one common link, quality.

In our view quality is not about a tick box exercise or the opinions of one ratings organisation or another, yes you have to demonstrate you have all your systems in place, train your frontline team well and ensure they deliver.

For Conference Centres of Excellence it’s about the customers experience measured against their own expectations, we set the bar pretty high to start with, with Excellence a key part of our name. The decision making process for customers, when first choosing a venue, starts with a certain level of expectation, but first to be a customer they have to choose what they believe to be the right venue to support their event. And how do they do that? Well peer to peer recommendation is important, the likes of trip advisor or professional venue finding agency are also important.

However find a brand or quality collective like Conference Centres of Excellence where you know the inherent commitment is to excellent service delivery which runs through all its members, experience one and you know the next time you need a venue it’s a simple choice, find another Conference Centres of Excellence member. It won’t look the same, but that’s not a bad thing, it will just feel right.

Ongoing quality measurement has to move with the times and we know you can’t just take our word for it, our members consistently win our industries top awards, we want to maintain our reputation as the leading quality brand for nationwide specialist venues."
