New bar and lounge for The Manor House, Godalming

The Manor House, Godalming has opened Smiths, a new bar and lounge, on which the building work was undertaken by an in-house team led by the centre’s Facilities Manager. The development is the second phase of a project started 18 months ago. The first phase saw the conversion of an unused cellar into a brand new meeting room, the de Bono Room. The third phase will see the enlargement of the building’s bistro dining area.

Henley Business School refurbishment programme nearing completion

Henley has now completed phase one of a £1 million programme to refurbish 44 of its ensuite bedrooms.

Reflecting the venue’s international brand, the bedrooms will be finished in a light and airy style, with contemporary colour schemes and carefully chosen colour accents. The design also includes a number of environmentally responsible initiatives.

To minimise disruption to its clients, the refurbishment is being by January next year

CCE at the ABPCO conference experience the best of Birmingham!

Conference Centres of Excellence recently attended a conference in Birmingham organised by ABPCO, the Association of British Professional Conference and Event Organisers conference. The two-day event was hosted by Birmingham Convention Bureau, enabling 28 ABPCO members - event organisers who organise an estimated 3500 conferences a year between them - to experience Birmingham’s conference and events offering. As part of the event, the group, which included representatives from MCI, MPI and Think Different events, toured a number of CCE properties including Aston Business School, Scarman House, Woodland Grange and Ashorne Hill.

Eynsham Hall, Oxfordshire conference centre held fundraising fashion show

The Oxfordshire based venue visualised and organised a reception and charity fashion show at the start of October sponsored with Debenhams, which is opening a new store in nearby Witney. All proceeds from the event have been donated to Guideposts Trust, a local charity that cares for people with Alzheimer’s, learning and mental health issues. Wellcome Trust Conference Centre, Cambridgeshire

The centre’s Grade 2 listed Hinxton Hall has achieved ISO 14001 accreditation -- the British Standard that shows compliance with a strict set of environmental standards. Staff have been instrumental in setting up many ‘green’ initiatives, including growing their own fresh herbs to serve in the restaurant, and introducing consistent recycling policies whereby waste is used for compost. The assessor commented on the campus-wide awareness of environmental responsibilities. The Royal College of Physicians, Regent's Park, London conference centre

The RCP has completed a £250,000 enhancement of its showpiece 300-seat Wolfson Theatre, a purpose-built, fully equipped, tiered auditorium and lecture theatre. The refurbishment sees new upholstery for all seats, new carpets and wall colours, improved lighting systems incorporating a motorised bar to facilitate control, a new central projection screen and curtain, and a remodelling of the facilities for support technicians. The Møller Conference Centre, Cambridge

The venue has completed the refurbishment of its Study Centre, giving delegates a lighter, more spacious environment and even more options in terms of technical support. The original suspended fluorescent lights have been replaced with energy efficient flush-fitting lights, giving an extra 50 cm of available height. Recycling success at imago, Loughborough University, Burleigh Court

Tidy Planet has helped Loughborough University win an award for outstanding achievements in recycling through use of the company's on-site food waste solutions. Since first introducing a recycling service at the university's halls of residence in 2006, Imago Services has managed to reduce the waste to landfill by 355 tonnes - 10% of which was generated by the food waste on site.

CCE venue The Beardmore hosts high-res fibre link for Glasgow's Jubilee Hospital

Golden Jubilee National Hospital now houses the expert cardiology services for West Scotland. Video South has installed a high resolution fibre link from the catheter labs to the on site Beardmore conference centre. The HD link will provide high quality demonstrations of interventional and EP procedures to audiences in the comfortable auditorium.

New technology & new techniques

The introduction of a world class teaching and conferencing system allowing live sound and images to be beamed direct from the hospital’s cardiac catheterisation laboratories (cath labs), meant that clinicians gathered in the auditorium of the adjoining Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre were able to watch and learn the innovative procedure.

And, due to high bandwidth fibre optic connection and live two-way audio, the remote audience could see the same high resolution imaging as those working in the lab.
