Prospero House signs up with Conference Centres of Excellence

Another prominent city centre venue has become the latest member of Conference Centres of Excellence, the UK’s leading consortium of specialist conference venues. It is Prospero House, situated on London’s South Bank close to London Bridge.

Prospero House has a total of 23 training, meeting and conference rooms, located on three floors. It recently introduced a new ‘Illuminate’ event space which, by providing technological links between two of its main ground floor suites, provides a conference capacity of 550. The venue offers high specification AV equipment and sophisticated ambient lighting systems.

It is part of the successful etc venues group and becomes the second venue from the group to join Conference Centres of Excellence: the first was the award-winning Maple House in Birmingham, which became part of the consortium in summer last year. “A venue can only become part of Conference Centres of Excellence if it demonstrates consistently high standards of quality across every part of its operation,” commented Iain Dix, Venue Manager at Prospero House: “It is a fiercely policed philosophy, and we are delighted to have demonstrated that we share those sector-leading standards.”

Prospero House is the latest example of the consortium’s determination to broaden the choice it offers to event organisers through a combination of residential and non-residential venues in a range of locations. Over the past year, it has prioritised increasing representation in major towns and cities: as well as Prospero House and Maple House, new members in that period include the Pitt Building in Cambridge, Weetwood Hall in Leeds, and two further London venues, Broadway House and 76 Portland Place.

“Prospero House is a highly impressive and extremely professional venue in every respect,” said Anthony Lishman, the consortium’s Executive Director: “It gives us even more to offer to those customers seeking prestigious venues in the heart of major business areas, that are close to public transport links.”

Conference Centres of Excellence provides a free, focused venue-finding service for corporate clients and agencies, providing single-source guidance on facilities, availability and rates for each member venue. Called Hotline, it can be contacted on 0845 230 1414, email info@cceonline.co.uk . The consortium’s website www.cceonline.co.uk includes extensive information on all members.

IMPROVEMENTS costing £250,000 have been completed at Wyboston Lakes, Waterfront Conference Centre

IMPROVEMENTS costing £250,000 have been completed at Wyboston Lakes, the UK’s largest privately owned single-site training and conference venue near St Neots.

The latest developments relate to the relaxation and leisure facilities on the venue’s 350 acre site and focus on its Waterfront Conference Centre.

The improvements to the leisure facilities will also be available to people who use the other conference venues, the Robinson Executive Conference Centre and the Willows Training Centre.

The Brasserie’s kitchen area has had £75,000 spent on it, including a range of new appliances and a new extraction system. The restaurant and bar areas have been re-decorated, with improvements to seating and new signage, together with outside lighting to enhance views over the site’s south lake.

After an investment of £110,000, a new 120-space car park has been opened outside the Waterfront Centre and its adjacent 18-hole golf course.

The golf course itself has been enhanced, with a total of £25,000 spent on planting trees and enhancing tee areas. Golfing facilities at Wyboston Lakes include a floodlit driving range and on-site professional support.

The latest enhancements follow the recent relaunch of the Paris Suite, one of the Waterfront Conference Centre’s main conference and banqueting suites, after a £40,000 programme of improvements.

Venue of the Week: Waterfront Conference Centre benefits from latest £250,000 investment at Wyboston Lakes myvenues.co.uk

Further significant enhancements to facilities at Wyboston Lakes have been completed, focusing primarily on its Waterfront Conference Centre. This means that in the first five months of the year, Wyboston Lakes – the UK's largest privately owned single site training and conference venue – has completed a range of improvements involving an investment of £250,000.

The latest developments relate to the relaxation and leisure facilities on the venue’s 350 acre site between Cambridge and Bedford. Although they focus on the Waterfront Conference Centre and its surrounding areas, as improvements to leisure facilities they are also relevant to users of its other conference venues, the Robinson Executive Conference Centre and the Willows Training Centre.

award winner imago at Burleigh Court introduces new Sports Accounts Development Manager

Multi-award winner imago, has introduced James Smith as its specialist Sports Accounts Development Manager for meetings and events.

James has been seconded to imago after working for Loughborough University as Commercial Events Coordinator at the campus’ Sports Development Centre. Towards the end of 2009 imago diversified into new areas of business in reaction to a slower market for weekend conferences. Building on the extensive and already established reputation of Loughborough University, the sports sector became a main area of focus. It was therefore crucial for imago to have a member of its team with specialist sports knowledge, because of the new direction of the brand. As a result, James’ role was restructured and the conferencing and events side of the business was moved solely into the professional hands of imago, where a new position opened up for James as Sports Accounts Development Manager for meetings and events.

This change in role was seamless, as James explains: “The restructure cleanly removed the ‘middle man’ in the events process, making booking a meeting or conference through Loughborough University more straightforward and far smoother for customers. All conferences, meetings and events enquiries are now directed straight to one dedicated sales team, ensuring that every customer has the same experience no matter what the event or arena.” He adds: “The team at imago was well established and it was only natural to centralise all of imago’s accounts under one roof to ensure its approach was more streamlined and all customers received the same packages, experiences, and quality level of service.

“Whether based at an academic venue or not, the value of imago is that we are a dedicated conference and meeting venue that is able to offer truly specialist facilities, dedicated and professionally trained staff and the expertise required to cater for every event, whatever the theme or size. This offering is only strengthened by the sporting reputation of Loughborough University. We are in a unique position as a business based on a campus which has such well respected links to the sporting world to diversify into a market which is still holding strong in the recession. Through a joint approach, the sporting facilities have been a fantastic compliment to the range of services we offer as a conference and meetings centre.

“As part of my role I have set up a number of relevant policies and procedures specific to sports, to ensure any meeting booking is a slick process. I am currently working hard to meet and develop relationships with existing customers as well as pinpoint new opportunities. imago is unique in that it boasts a conferencing and events arm that is capable of specialising in sports so heavily, all of which is helped by our connection to Loughborough University and the amount of events and meetings they hold. “The recent opening of Loughborough Universities SportPark in January 2010, which is home to many of the country’s top sports governing bodies, national sports organisations and charities, has meant that approximately 60% of all the meetings I coordinate are generated on campus.

“It is undeniable that Loughborough University has an amazing reputation and is known first and foremost for its sport, all of which help to make imago a truly sellable product in the sports meetings arena.”

imago has taken a joint approach to the sports sector, teaming up with the University for mutual benefit. In 2011, imago will be hosting Europe’s largest corporate multi-sports festival (the UK Corporate Games), combing its four star accommodation and meeting venue with the world class sports pitches and facilities at the University. With leading names in the alumni such as Sebastian Coe and Paula Radcliffe as well as teams such as the England Rugby Team it has also held high profile events such as East Midlands Sports Personality of the Year in 2009, whilst it is now preparing for perhaps its highest accolade yet, becoming the host of the Japanese 2012 Olympics team and becoming the official preparation camp of team GB.

• Health and wellness – using wireless technology solutions to solve health-related issues
• Technology design – for those with a new take on technology, and;

Closing for entries on 29 October, the competition will be judged by leading industry figures and winners will be announced at the Cambridge Wireless Founders’ Awards dinner on Thursday 9 December at Newnham College, Cambridge.

Alongside the competition, Cambridge Wireless will provide a series of ‘masterclasses’ to help technology-focused start-ups – wireless or otherwise – to address common issues when starting and growing their business. The launch event, ‘Show us the money’ will be hosted on Tuesday 13 July 2010 at the Møller Centre, Cambridge, and will provide top tips on securing critical early-stage investment. Warwick Conferences achieve international green star award

Warwick Conferences has been awarded the internationally recognised IACC (International Association of Conference Centers) Green Star accreditation for its environmental policy.

Awarded silver status, Warwick Conferences demonstrated its support of IACC’s code of sustainability, which strives for a more sustainable and environmentally responsible conferencing industry.

For IACC members to achieve silver status they are required to adhere to 75% of 55 rigorous environmental tenets, as outlined in IACC’s code of sustainability. The tenets include water conversation, energy management, air quality and food and beverage etc.

Andrew Taylor, food and beverage manager at Radcliffe training and conference centre, Warwick Conferences comments: “Achieving silver status is fantastic news. However, we want to prove that we’re the market leader when it comes to environmental policy, so our next goal is gold, if not platinum. Our customers are extremely aware of environmental issues, so they expect it to be embedded in our ethos and daily practices.

“Whilst we’ve made a great start at Warwick, for example having invested seriously into an extensive recycling programme and putting incentives in place to encourage staff to cycle to work, there are still improvements to be made. One of our biggest projects this year is to work on the more effective use of energy and water, tracking our energy consumption and evaluating where wastage can be reduced.

“We’re continuously looking to build on our good work so far - the IACC Green Star Award is just the first in a number of green accreditations we hope to achieve over the next 12 months.”

Scoring 80% in its last assessment Warwick Conferences hopes to increase its score to 85% to achieve gold status next year. So far the venue has already heavily invested in its environmental policy for the next five years with plans for improved roof insulation, installation of further energy efficient lighting and sensor activated lighting, and plans to invest in plumbed water coolers for 2011

School Children Show Design Flair for East Midlands Conference Centre

115 pupils from Dovecote Primary, Whitegate Primary and Milford Primary schools in Clifton, Nottingham visited the East Midlands Conference Centre on Tuesday 25th May to find out the winner of a competition to design a new logo to commemorate the conference centre's 25th Anniversary. The logos were designed by groups of year 5 children, following briefing sessions led by the Nottingham Conferences' marketing team in the schools in February this year.

‘Keiths Team' from Whitegate Primary School were delighted to accept the winners accolade for their design and will now join the marketing team to develop it further. The team comprising Keith Wong, Zoellise Nicholson, Olivia Anderson-Rayner, Ryan O'Malley and Shauna Bales were presented with a framed version of the logo and certificate from Chris Jagger, Chief Estates and Facilities Officer at The University of Nottingham. The new logo will be used on the website and on other promotional materials on the lead up to the official celebrations in November this year.

The judging panel; Lisa Owen, Primary Schools Engagement Manager, Community Partnerships, The University of Nottingham, Kirstie Danzey, Marketing Manager, Nottingham Conferences and Colin Zachara, Operations Manager, The East Midlands Conference Centre, assessed the entries according to the brief that had been set.

Colin said "We were astounded by the number and quality of the entries and there has obviously been a lot of time and effort put into this project. The winning design has been clearly thought through with great use of the existing brand colours and we felt that it really captures the spirit of celebrating 25 years of business at the East Midlands Conference Centre."

Leading the project, Kirstie Danzey Marketing Manager for Nottingham Conferences explains; "The East Midlands Conference Centre has played host to a number of events in 25 years, with all profits going back into the University, as well as bringing a significant direct economic benefit into Nottingham. We are delighted with the winning design which is bright and uplifting and we look forward to developing it and using it on marketing materials later in the year"

£4 per person, or
£80 for a group of 25 people or more.

Our fully qualified Yoga instructor, Samantha, will meet the group at 7am at the ‘Ring of Oaks’ to make the most of the fresh air. All classes will be suitable for beginners and will include basic breathing and Yoga movements so no previous experience is required. However, if the group require advanced level classes then Samantha will be happy to adapt the level of her class accordingly.

Fresh Produce at Lane End Conference Centre

As part of our commitment to source local home grown produce and only use suppliers who have a sound environmental policy in place, we are now sourcing all our milk directly from the Lacey family who have been farming in South Bucks, with pedigree Guernsey cows for seven generations since the 1930’s.

The milk is not only fresh and tasty, but there is no food miles at all as the farm is located within 2 miles of Lane End Conference Centre. The Lacey family have invested in equipment to enable them to pasteurise their own milk which have not only presented us with the opportunity to reduce our food miles significantly, but we are now also supplying a fresher and healthier product as Guernsey milk is recognised for its additional health benefits.

The benefits of Guernsey Milk:

Guernsey milk is unhomogenised and better for your health. Although homogenisation breaks up the fat particles which means the milk will stay fresher for longer, it also causes the fat to be absorbed much more easily into the body and is therefore not good for you.
Guernsey milk is recognised for its additional health benefits with more Beta Carotene, Omega 3 and Beta Casein A2 than any other type of milk.

For more information about the health benefits go to the Guernsey milk website or call 0845 230 1414 to discuss your business requirements.

News from Cotswold Conference Centre, Midlands - Conference Centres of Excellence

Keystone Training take pride in providing the right learning environment to enable business people and organisations to grow and develop. The business was started by Angela Loggie 6 years ago and has grown steadily to become a market leader in providing innovative leadership and development programmes for many blue chip companies.

So far in 2010, Keystone Training have brought 3 different clients to Cotswold Conference Centre on the Farncombe Estate.

We interviewed Senior Training Consultant, Richard Sivers, to explore his passion for the North Cotswold Estate just outside Broadway, Worcestershire.

“There is a lot of ground work and preparation to do with our bespoke programmes, so moving venue is not something we take lightly nor want to do regularly. Following a web search in mid-2009 I was looking initially for 5 things.
We needed a central location. I knew I didn’t want a hotel environment with a spa and other hotel-like distractions. A dedicated business learning environment was important with plenty of space, the setting had to be right too. CCC came to my attention on the search engines and looked good, actually very good - so I made contact. Right from the first moment I was particularly impressed with the professionalism of Rachael Buttery. Nothing was too much trouble. The pictures are good but when you get there you can’t help but stop and admire the view – it is a stunning location.”

Richard continued…, “The 6th thing I hadn’t put on my list (but I guess everyone expects) is ‘customer service’. I don’t know how they do it but CCC actually deliver exceptional customer service – consistently. The people are wonderful and nothing is too much trouble. The place is quite unique. When I ask for something, it happens! Everyone you come into contact with – from Reception to Housekeeping – they are all keen to help make the events as successful as possible. Delegates have all loved the venue, particularly the food! More importantly, we are able to deliver successful development programmes, and long may this partnership continue. ”
