Quality Standards remain top of the list for CCE Venues

Conference Centres of Excellence is delighted once again to see member venues achieve a number of BDRC Continental’s VenueVerdict Gold Standard Accreditations at the end of Q1 2015.
The VenueVerdict Gold Standard Accreditation is the top level accolade issued to venues, based on independent customer feedback including their ‘likelihood to recommend’ Net Promoter Score.

Our venues consistently demonstrate the high standards required to provide an outstanding event experience for customers, across a number of key areas including service, facilities, food and accommodation. For those who take part in the BDRC VenueVerdict programme, achieving these accreditations on a regular basis independently confirms the excellent ongoing service delivery.
Just under 21,000 individual pieces of feedback were collated to determine the VenueVerdict results, providing a completely independent assessment of experience. In choosing a venue where customer feedback and in particular the ‘likelihood to recommend’ has been measured in this way, customers can rest assured that they are in safe hands.

Seven Conference Centres of Excellence member venues have achieved the BDRC Continental VenueVerdict Gold Standard Accreditation following ongoing assessment of customer feedback during the year from April 2014 to March 2015.

The Conference Centre of Excellence gold accredited venues are:

Amanda Stacey, Marketing Manager of Conference Centres of Excellence commented:
“At a time when service delivery and customer experience are once again becoming a priority factor for event bookers, rather than low pricing and reduced rate packages, we’re delighted to see that our members are consistently being rewarded with the highest level of customer feedback. BDRC VenueVerdict is a well-recognised industry standard and our venues can rightly be proud of their achievements.”

Nottingham Conference Centre achieves leading industry accreditation

Nottingham Conference Centre has recently received the Accredited in Meetings (AIM) Gold standard award. AIM is the nationwide Kitemark for venues and service providers in the meetings, conference and events industry.

Administered by the meetings industry association (mia) and endorsed by Visit Britain, Visit England and the Association of British Professional Conference Organisers, AIM is awarded to venues that have met or exceeded 50 criteria including customer service, quality of facilities, compliance with codes of conduct and corporate social responsibility.

AIM Gold is the highest level of the accreditation and demonstrates a venue's compliance with a more stringent set of criteria, completing a self-assessment, producing a portfolio of evidence in support of its application and receiving a visit from an independent assessor.

Jennifer Canto, Nottingham Conference Centre business development and sales manager, said: "We believe this is an important accreditation within the industry, showing customers the level of standards we are operating at.

"As an AIM accredited supplier we are committed to making our clients' events a success and by using our expertise we strive to exceed the highest standards."

Jane Longhurst, mia chief executive, added: "AIM is a mark of reassurance to meetings buyers; a demonstration that a venue is compliant, competent and capable. When a venue has achieved AIM Gold, buyers know the facilities will be of the highest standard and that they will receive service that is second to none with exceptional catering and hospitality."

Conference Centres of Excellence Awards

CCE awards highlight outstanding performance of member venues and external providers

Conference Centres of Excellence has announced the winners of its first-ever awards. Presented at the consortium’s recent annual conference at the Wyboston Lakes Executive Centre, the awards recognise excellence from within the CCE membership, and also  in three categories for non-members - ‘best supplier’, ‘best booking agency’, and ‘non-CCE venue most admired by members’.

Submissions were invited from all members of the consortium, which is the UK’s leading group of specialist conference and training venues and has thirty six members. The judging panel comprised industry experts Tony Rogers, Anna Clover and Tim Chudley, and was chaired by CCE executive director Anthony Lishman.

Awards involving member venues were as follows:

The Innovation Award was won by Warwick Conferences’ Scarman House for its ‘comparetheconference.com’ campaign. The judges commented that the initiative  was both very creative and specifically targeted, and “will benefit the whole of our industry by promoting the conference centre concept”. Runner up was Conference Aston for its ‘aston.app’ initiative.

The Sustainability Award was won by Prospero House. The panel described its actions as “taking sustainability and CSR policy to the next level, with a big community aspect.”

The Best Non-Residential Venue Award went to Nottingham Conference Centre. Judges complimented the venue on its “creative use of an old building”, the focus of its SOPs and the quality of its customer feedback. Runner up was Maple House.

The Best Residential Venue Award went to The  Møller Centre. Judges complimented the venue on its regular customer focus groups, and the  excellence of its website. They also referred to the venue’s consistent achievement of gold standard in the BDRC VenueVerdict awards. Runner up was Scarman House.

Three other categories allowed CCE member venues to express their opinions on third-party organisations which were themselves not part of the consortium.  In the case of ‘Best Supplier’ and ‘Best Booking Agency’, the only requirement was that nominated companies must have an ongoing relationship with one or more CCE members. In the case of the ‘non-CCE venue most admired by members’, submissions were open to interpretation, and could be for service, quality, innovation.  The winners were as follows:

The Best Supplier to Conferencing award went to Berkmann Wine Cellars, which were described as “going above and beyond” and “adding value”. Runner-up was Wilson Vale.

The Best Conference Booking Agency was Trinity Conferences, which was described as demonstrating “ the ability to be a strategic partner” and as “particularly effective at engaging with the venue team so they have a good understanding of how their business works.”

The ‘Non-Conference Centre of Excellence venue most admired by members’ award was achieved by the Kingston upon Thames venue Warren House, which was described as “a venue that has consistently maintained exceptionally high standards of service” and which has “remained true to the conference and training centre concept”. Runner up was Dillington House in Somerset.

A special award for hisoutstanding contribution to Conference Centres of Excellence’ was presented to Barry Stonham OBE, general manager of Wyboston Lakes. During his career in the conference sector, Barry has been a board member and treasurer of Conference Centres of Excellence and a board member and treasurer of IACC, the International Association of Conference Centre. He has ensured the financial stability of both organisations in difficult times, roles which have been undertaken voluntarily. Retiring at the end of this year, he is a Fellow of The Institute of Hospitality.

“Our awards achieve a number of primary objectives, one of which is to help enhance awareness of the role and purpose of dedicated venues and their continuing commitment to progressive enhancement of their services,” commented Anthony Lishman: “ They also help to strengthen still further the competitiveness of member venues, which must be good for their customers – and they also enable members to give a pat on the back to  organisations that are impressing them.”

Nottingham Conference Centre tops industry survey

Nottingham Conference Centre has come top in an industry survey from academic venue consortium Venuemasters.

Designed to provide a benchmark of service and response levels, the survey was conducted with 89 Venuemasters members and a sample of ten hotels and conference centres in January. It saw ‘mystery buyer’ researchers contact the venues with details of an event they were planning to hold which were then rated against a checklist of actions a buyer should expect .

Venues were scored in four categories - each representing a different element of the enquiry handling process, from the initial contact to following up the enquiry. Nottingham Conference Centre scored top marks in two of the categories and were rated very highly in the rest.

The feedback enables members to measure their performance against others, to identify aspects of the venue’s enquiry handling process that have performed well or could be improved, and to help build service levels that demonstrate the professionalism the academic venue provide to potential buyers.

Jillian Miles, conference and events operations manager at Nottingham Conference Centre, commented: “We pride ourselves in the excellent level of service we offer, and it is great to have the work our team does recognised in this way. This is only the second time that we’ve been involved in the survey and we’re delighted to have come first this year, and will continue to provide our customers with the exceptional service levels they have come to expect from us.”

Venuemasters is a consortium promoting the facilities available for hire to event planners and other customers at 90 academic venues in the UK and Ireland.

Nottingham Conference Centre is proud to support The Conference Cloud campaign

Nottingham Conference Centre has always offered delegates free Wi-Fi access throughout the venue and is proud to be supporting The Conference Cloud campaign. Like all 41 Conference Centres of Excellence venues, we believe that Wi-Fi is an essential service for any event and that additional fees should not be charged to delegates wishing to use it.

The Conference Cloud campaign is an initiative by ABPCO, the Association of British Professional Conference Organisers, to encourage conference venues across the UK to offer free Wi-Fi to conference delegates.

The campaign follows feedback regarding the negative impact of high Wi-Fi access prices for delegates. Most conferences are now using Wi-Fi enabled tools, allowing delegates to access information during the event, encouraging interaction such as social media comments and networking within conference venues. ABPCO believes that venues that are committed to enhancing the delegate experience should work with event organisers to make these tools as accessible as possible through provision of good quality Wi-Fi.

ABPCO Chair Michael Foreman commented: “Online access is a fundamental part of everyday working life and we know that delegates attending our members’ events need to stay connected while on the move. Even with the proliferation of mobile broadband coverage, quality Wi-Fi is still the preferred online access route, especially for overseas delegates keen to avoid excessive data roaming charges.

Meetings and events professionals are also encouraged to support The Conference Cloud through its online petition available via the website at www.theconferencecloud.co.uk, or join the debate on social media via ABPCO’s Linked In Group, Facebook or Twitter using #confcloud

Green Impact Certificate awarded to Nottingham Conference Centre

Nottingham Conference Centre, situated in a beautifully unique and recently transformed Grade II* listed building at Nottingham Trent University, is delighted to have received a Bronze Award Green Impact certificate.

Green Impact is an environmental accreditation scheme run by the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges. It is designed to encourage individuals and departments to reduce their environmental impact by rewarding and celebrating practical environmental improvements. Those partaking in the Green Impact scheme can achieve either: a working towards accreditation, Bronze, Silver or Gold Award.

Caring for the environment is always high on our agenda at Nottingham Conference Centre and we’re very proud of our strong environmental philosophy.

The Centre boasts over 3,000 square metres of sedum roof - a living moss-like material which absorbs carbon dioxide and provides a haven for insects and other wildlife in the city centre. The roof also helps to reduce flash flooding.

We use fair-trade sourced ingredients where possible and also support local and seasonal suppliers. Our investment in technology allows you to host video conferencing, enabling an international agenda without a large carbon footprint and our city-centre location means that delegates have access to Nottingham’s excellent public transport systems, including the award-winning tram network.

Mark Vater, Nottingham Conference Centre’s Commercial Manager said: ‘We’re very pleased to have been awarded the certificate in recognition of our efforts to reduce our environmental impact. Caring for the environment is a key philosophy for us here at Nottingham Conference Centre. We are keen to continue with the scheme and work towards the higher accreditations in the coming year.’
