Quality service backed-up by quality systems - Missenden Abbey Conference Centre, Buckinghamshire

Missenden Abbey Conference Centre, member of Conference Centres of Excellence, has once again been awarded the highest possible rating, five stars, from Chiltern District Council for its high standard of food service and hygiene.

The award helps the Abbey to continue its unbroken record of achieving the top award, now gained for the fourth consecutive year.

The Council’s Environmental Health Manager concluded that Missenden Abbey, which is owned by Bucks New University, ‘provides an excellent performance level’, and that it ‘has an excellent level of compliance with food hygiene legislation and recommended best practice guidance’. As a result the Abbey has been awarded the coveted five -star rating.

Missenden Abbey is the only conference centre within the Chiltern District Council area to be awarded five stars and only 39 businesses in total have achieved this score.

Steve Crawford, Centre Director at Missenden Abbey, said: “This is the fourth occasion that we have achieved the highest award and it is a great credit to all of the catering team, particularly Phil Child, Acting Head Chef, and Ann Emery, Food & Beverage Manager, for their hard work and high standards of professionalism. Our next goal is to achieve a fifth consecutive five-star award!”

Councillor Isobel Darby, Chiltern District Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Housing added: “Congratulations to all involved at Missenden Abbey in achieving consistently high standards year after year. We are looking forward to their continued success.”

Missenden Abbey Conference Centre is owned by Buckinghamshire New University and has a fascinating history having been originally founded as a working monastery in 1133. It now offers a unique combination of modern residential training facilities together with warm hospitality, all set in a 12th century abbey. Available all year round, it has 20 fully equipped conference rooms and 57 en-suite bedrooms. The Abbey can host corporate events, meetings, training and team building, presentations and conferences, as well as weddings and private functions.

Set in the heart of The Chilterns, Missenden Abbey lies in over ten acres of picturesque lawn and parkland, and yet it is within convenient reach of the M25, M40 and M1 motorways as well as mainline train stations, and is just 30 miles from central London. The Abbey is an active member of Conference Centres of Excellence, a group promoting the concept that dedicated venues provide an ideal location for business events. It is also a member of the Meetings Industry Association, the leading association for the meetings industry. Find out more at www.cceonline.co.uk or call 0845 230 1414.

Scores on the Doors is a scheme to show how well food businesses are complying with food hygiene law.

The scheme applies to all caterers and retailers handling and preparing open food to the public. For example, restaurants, takeaways, cafes, sandwich shops and delicatessens. The food business is given a certificate and sticker to display in their window or door that shows their food hygiene rating out of five stars. The scores are also published online at www.scoresonthedoors.org.uk

The scheme makes the star ratings publicly available so that the public can make informed choices about the places in which they eat out and purchase food, and through this, to encourage businesses to improve hygiene standards.
